Productivity Tips Are you a ‘stacker?’, ‘pile maker?, how about a ‘procrastinator?’ this article may help you - Start practicing “One touch” time management . . . one of the best resources on time management I’ve studied is David Allen’s “Getting Things Done” – one of my big “take-aways” was a technique for processing all the incoming information we receive . . . we get calls, emails, faxes, co-workers come to us with questions, tasks, events; for the sake of this article let’s call these “INFLOWS”. How can we keep it all straight? We some days we get one INFLOW after another. . . How can we avoid turning around in circles again and again without ever really being productive in an effective manner? Start by making a commitment to yourself to begin to get organized going forward. Start today. When you get a new INFLOW ( and assuming it’s one that requires action) - David Allen’s “Getting Things Done” suggests you make one of three simple decisions: 1) DO IT NOW 2) DELEGATE IT IMMEDIATELY 3) DEFER IT TIL LATER (schedule a date and time now on your calendar to take action on it) Rather than putting it in the pile, risking it becoming lost forever, moved or misplaced – take one of the appropriate actions above . . .it’s free your mind to be more effective and move forward in your day. Next month we’ll discuss what to do with those INFLOWS that don’t require any action – examples include things you might do in the future, articles you might want to read or review. Until then practice this little trick – best of luck!
